Once again, due to pandemic restrictions the CSE project partners were unable to meet “live”. Instead of the meeting planned in Turin (Italy), we discussed all the topics related to the project on 26 April 2021 in the form of an online meeting.
To begin with, Prof. Ewa Domagała-Zyśk from the Catholic University summed up the work on the first project result – the development of the publication “The Cued Speech system and its practice”. She emphasized the innovativeness of this publication – the fact that it is the first of its kind to analyze the Cued Speech system in an international context. She also referred to the challenges connected with the process of creating the publication – including the differences in terminology in the countries of the partnership, as well as the international character and background of the co-authors coming from various types of organizations, not only scientific ones. The publication is a brief introduction to the Cued Speech method – it presents the history and development of the method as well as its benefits. The target audience is deaf and hard of hearing people as well as their parents, families, teachers, therapists and other professionals.
Then Andre Ebouaney from Istituto dei Sordi di Torino and Sophie De Bock from Association pour la Langue française Parlée Complétée Belgique discussed the status of work on the next project deliverables – online training modules. The first part of this interactive course is a module focusing on how to speak with phonogests. The second part of the course will show how to “listen” visually, i.e. read speech delivered using phonogest.
In the second part of the meeting, the partners focused, among other things, on issues related to the management, dissemination and evaluation of the project.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 2021 in Lublin.
